Vaz Preparatory School Past Student Association, Florida Inc. wants every alumnus, parent, supporter and guest to be able to use this website, whatever device they are on and whatever they need in order to read a screen. This page says what we have done, what standard we are working to, what is still not right, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.
The standard we are working to
We are building this site to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard referenced by most accessibility law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act as it is applied to websites.
We aim to meet that standard. We do not yet claim to have met it in full, and the next section explains why.
Where we actually stand, stated honestly
No formal accessibility audit has been carried out on this site. No independent evaluator has reviewed it, and it has not been tested with a screen reader by someone who uses one daily. What we have done is check our own work as we built it, which is not the same thing and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
What we have done deliberately:
Color contrast has been measured, not guessed. Every combination of text and background used on the site has been checked against the WCAG contrast formula, and combinations that failed have been replaced rather than kept because they looked acceptable. The site's white-on-navy body text measures better than 14:1 against a required 4.5:1.
Headings are used in order and mean something. Each page has one main heading and a logical structure beneath it, so that someone navigating by headings with a screen reader gets a usable outline of the page rather than a list of styling choices.
Photographs carry text descriptions. Images that convey information have alternative text. We deliberately do not name children in image descriptions, for child safety reasons, which means those descriptions are less specific than they might otherwise be. That is a considered trade-off.
Links say where they go. We avoid "click here" and "read more" as the entire text of a link.
Keyboard focus is visible. Buttons and links show a clear outline when reached by keyboard, so someone who does not use a mouse can see where they are on the page.
Forms have real labels. Every field is labeled, and required fields are marked as required rather than only signalled by color.
The site works without a mouse and at larger text sizes. Pages can be zoomed and text enlarged without content being lost behind other content.
Known problems we have not fixed yet
Publishing this list is the point of the page. These are real and they are ours.
Some page introductions do not display correctly on a phone. On several pages the headline and introductory text of the top section can be hard or impossible to read on a small screen because of how the layout reflows. A temporary correction is in place and a permanent rebuild of those sections is underway. The text is present in the page and is read correctly by a screen reader in every case; the problem is visual.
The site has not been tested with assistive technology by an experienced user. We would like to change this, and we would particularly welcome hearing from any past student who uses a screen reader, magnification, voice control or a switch device and would be willing to tell us what they find. Write to us at the address below.
Videos do not all carry captions. Some of the video content embedded on this site, including archive footage, has no caption track. Where a video carries information that appears nowhere else on the site, tell us and we will provide a transcript.
PDF documents may not be fully accessible. Sponsorship booklets and similar documents are produced in design software and are not always tagged for screen readers. If you need any document on this site in an accessible format, ask us and we will provide the content another way.
Parts of this site are not ours. Ticket sales run through Eventbrite and TouchstoneLink, hotel bookings through Marriott, and the site itself is built on the Squarespace platform. We do not control the accessibility of those systems. If you hit a barrier on one of them while trying to support the association, do not give up and go away — write to us and we will complete the transaction with you directly. That offer is real and it applies to buying a ticket, making a donation and booking a table.
The gala, and access to the event
Accessibility is not only a website question. The 75th Anniversary Benefit Gala takes place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the AC Hotel by Marriott Grand Ballroom, Kingston.
If you need step-free access, seating close to the stage, a place for a wheelchair at a table, a companion seat for a personal assistant, a quieter area away from the speakers, an accessible restroom route, or anything else that would make the evening work for you, write to info@vpsalumni.org and tell us before the event. The earlier you tell us, the more we can arrange. We would far rather be asked in August than told in September.
The venue is a Marriott hotel property and is accessible, but tell us anyway, so that your table is placed with your needs in mind rather than by chance.
Tell us when something does not work
This is the part of the page that matters most. If any page, form, document or feature on this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to know, and we will fix it or give you the information another way.
Write to info@vpsalumni.org. It helps if you can tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what device, browser or assistive technology you were using — but do not let a missing detail stop you writing. A message saying "I can't read the donate page on my phone" is useful.
We will acknowledge your message within five business days and tell you what we are going to do about it and roughly when. If a fix will take time, we will say so and we will offer you another route to whatever you were trying to do in the meantime. We are a volunteer association, so we will be honest about timescales rather than promise something we cannot deliver.

What we are doing next
Our current commitments, in order:
Rebuild the page introductions that fail on small screens, so that no text on this site is invisible on a phone.
Provide transcripts for video content that carries information not available elsewhere.
Review every image description across the site, and improve the ones that describe the photograph rather than the point of it.
Arrange testing with people who use assistive technology, and act on what they tell us.
Review this statement at least once a year, and after any significant change to the site.

This statement was prepared on August 5, 2026 by VPSPSA, based on a self-assessment of the site. It has not been reviewed by an external accessibility evaluator. It will be updated as the work above is completed, and the effective date at the top of this page will change when it is.
